I want families to feel empowered and supported

It was a full moon, during the first birth that I attended at Saint Boniface Hospital. We all cried when the child was born. After that, I was hooked.
Throughout my nursing education I was surprised to see the gap between patients and nurses. A nurse follows fetal heart rate where as I wanted to follow the patients morale, a nurse focuses on cervical dilation where as I wanted to encourage helpful labour positions, this role meant that I couldn't give a personal approach to care that I was hoping for.
I found that there was no space to provide emotional centered care that I was passionate about. I wanted families to feel empowered and supported through this transition, even when new obstacles arose.
This is one of the reasons why I have returned to doula work, to fill that gap, listen to your needs, and support you throughout the process.
When I'm not supporting families I'll be making delicious meals from Alison Roman's recipes, at a local rock climbing gym, or enjoying a strong cup of black tea with my small pup and partner!
